Grace Church in Salem

In late spring this year, Grace Church and the Bowditch School entered into a partnership.  The members of Grace will be engaged with the 4th graders of the Bowditch school for the school year 2014-2015.  We will then progress with them as they become 5th graders in 2015-2016, 6th graders and on through their 8th grade year in 2018-2019.  This continued presence in their lives is intended to give them a real sense that there are people in the community who care about them and their education.  It has been shown that forming relationships with children at this age is one of the most important ways to ensure they are successful in their education and in their lives. 

The partnership will involve opportunities for the people of Grace to give of their time, talent and treasure in a variety of ways.  For this school year we have been donating supplies for the classrooms. In late September we will host a parent/teacher supper with child care provided so that parents and teachers will have the chance to talk casually together and get to know each other.  Plans are being made for activities with the kids in the classrooms in coming months and a possible field trip to Grace in November for an arts and crafts event.  Details of these happenings will be in the e-news and the Sunday leaflets as well as posted on the bulletin board in the foyer.
